According to Trading Economics, British stocks closed lower on Friday, with the FTSE 100 index in London falling by about 0.5% to reach 9,669 points, the lowest level in over a week, lagging behind its European counterparts.

The biggest pressure came from oil and gas companies, as shares of BP dropped by 2.6% and Shell by 1.4% following downgrades by JPMorgan. Declines in Smiths Group (-3.5%) and Metlen Energy & Metals (-2.7%) also added pressure to the index.

The financial sector also experienced notable losses, with shares of Standard Chartered and Prudential both down by approximately 1.6%.
