Novo Nordisk Leads Gains with Historic FDA Approval
Novo Nordisk (NVO) led the market with an exceptional 9.48% jump to $52.66, adding $4.56 to its value. This surge followed the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of the oral Wegovy pill, the first GLP-1 class oral drug for obesity treatment in the US.
The medication is intended for use alongside a low-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help adults with obesity or overweight issues accompanied by weight-related medical conditions. Notably, Wegovy also secured approval for reducing the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including death, heart attacks, and strokes in adults with cardiovascular disease.
Other Companies Post Notable Gains
IDEAYA Biosciences (IDYA) rose 6.49% to $37.81 in extended trading. The company recently announced full enrollment of 435 patients in its phase 2/3 OptimUM-02 clinical trial evaluating darovasertib in combination with Pfizer's crizotinib for metastatic uveal melanoma. IDEAYA expects to report progression-free survival data in Q1 2026.
Neumora Therapeutics (NMRA) advanced 16.02% to $2.10, despite no specific company news, indicating broad investor interest in the sector.
Healthcare Triangle (HCTI) climbed 6.72% to $1.43. On December 10, the company announced a preliminary agreement with Teyame AI LLC as part of its plan to acquire Spanish AI firms Teyame 360 SL and Datono Mediacion SL, both specializing in customer experience AI solutions.
Other Biotech Firms in the Spotlight
BioRestorative Therapies (BRTX) gained 6.90% to $1.24, while RenovoRx (RNXT) added 4.44% to reach $0.94. Alphatec Holdings (ATEC), specializing in spine surgery technology, posted a modest 2.80% gain to $21.28.
