The United Arab Emirates has taken a major step in advancing its digital transformation agenda after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, approved the establishment of the Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data.

The new authority will serve as the UAE's unified national framework for managing data, artificial intelligence, and digital government initiatives, operating under the direct supervision of the UAE Cabinet.

The move reflects the country's growing commitment to integrating advanced technologies into government operations, public services, and strategic decision-making as it seeks to strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation and digital transformation.

Unified Governance for Data and AI

According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the authority will oversee the development and coordination of national efforts related to data governance, artificial intelligence, and digital government services.

He also announced the appointment of Omar Sultan Al Olama to lead the new authority.

"Our goal is a government that is more efficient, agile and proactive, leveraging technology to serve people and build a better future for coming generations," Sheikh Mohammed said in a statement published on X.

Accelerating the UAE's Digital Transformation

The establishment of the authority marks a new phase in the UAE's digital transformation strategy, moving beyond individual initiatives toward a more integrated institutional framework for data and AI management at the federal level.

The authority is expected to support greater coordination among government entities, establish unified standards for data management, and accelerate the deployment of AI-powered services across the public sector.

AI-Driven Government and Decision-Making

The initiative underscores the UAE's ambition to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into government operations and policymaking.

By leveraging data and AI-assisted tools, the government aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance service delivery, and strengthen its ability to anticipate future economic and social needs.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the UAE remains committed to building the "government of the future," supported by data-driven decision-making and advanced digital technologies.

Strengthening the UAE's Digital Economy

The announcement comes as the UAE continues to invest heavily in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and advanced technologies.

Analysts view the creation of the Federal Authority for Artificial Intelligence and Data as a significant institutional step toward building a national AI ecosystem capable of supporting innovation, competitiveness, and long-term economic growth.

The UAE was among the first countries globally to launch a national artificial intelligence strategy, and the new authority further reinforces its ambition to become a leading player in the global digital economy.
