Microsoft, in collaboration with CPX (a G42 subsidiary), has officially launched the national "She Protects" initiative to empower female university students in the UAE with hands-on knowledge and skills for careers in cybersecurity. The move comes as digital threats accelerate globally and the UAE transitions towards an AI-driven economy.

The initiative was announced during an event at Microsoft’s Dubai headquarters, attended by government officials, academic institutions, and private sector experts, coinciding with Safer Internet Day 2026. This reflects the UAE’s national commitment to enhancing digital security and building a qualified local talent pipeline.

"She Protects" aims to address the growing skills gap in cybersecurity through a comprehensive training program running from February to June 2026. The program features technical training, professional readiness, accredited certifications, and practical labs simulating real-world threat scenarios.

  • Awareness programs on the threat landscape and digital safety practices
  • Microsoft SC-900 Security, Compliance, and Identity certification track
  • Career development workshops, including digital identity building via LinkedIn
  • Advanced interactive cyber labs supported by Cyberbit
  • Job readiness programs in partnership with IDEA HR and INJAZ UAE

This initiative addresses a documented global shortage of cybersecurity professionals - women represent only about 25% of the sector workforce, despite rising demand, particularly in the UAE for cybersecurity and generative AI skills.

Amr Kamel, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, stated the initiative extends a longstanding strategic partnership with the UAE, focusing on developing a diverse generation of talent to safeguard the digital future. He emphasized that nurturing local talent is critical in an AI-driven era.

Hadi Anwar, CEO of CPX, highlighted that empowering women in cybersecurity not only addresses representation gaps but also drives innovation, resilience, and trust in the national digital economy.

The initiative’s first phase will train 50 young women, strengthening the UAE’s cybersecurity talent pipeline and supporting its vision for a secure, inclusive digital ecosystem, with backing from the UAE Cybersecurity Council.

EcoPulse24 Analysis

The "She Protects" initiative marks a strategic shift in the UAE’s approach to cybersecurity, moving from a focus on infrastructure and technology to direct investment in human capital. With AI adoption accelerating across government and economic sectors, cyber risks are rising faster than the global talent market can supply qualified professionals.

The initiative is significant not only for addressing the skills gap but also for targeting the gender gap in one of the most sensitive and strategic fields. Combining technical and professional training demonstrates a practical understanding of market needs and increases the likelihood of participants becoming active contributors to the national cybersecurity ecosystem.

In the medium term, such initiatives lay the foundation for sustainable digital sovereignty, supporting the UAE’s position as a regional hub for AI and cybersecurity as global economies redefine security, digital trust, and future readiness.
