The Technology Innovation Institute (TII), the applied research entity of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council, announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with Resource Defense Industries, a UAE-based defense company. The partnership focuses on integrating advanced autonomous aerial system technologies into ready-to-deploy platforms, supporting modern air power applications and intelligence gathering.

This collaboration seeks to expedite the transfer of innovation from laboratory research directly into Resource’s aerial platforms. The technological package includes advanced sensor payloads, most notably airborne synthetic aperture radar, which provides high-resolution imaging under various weather and lighting conditions. This enhances surveillance and situational awareness, even in low-visibility or electronically contested environments.

Additionally, the cooperation involves integrating radio frequency magnetic mapping technologies to support navigation and environmental awareness in GPS-denied or electronically contested areas, thus improving operational reliability and continuity.

Dr. Najwa Al Aaraj, CEO of TII, highlighted that the partnership is centered on transforming pioneering research into deployable capabilities with tangible impact. She noted that autonomous aerial systems operate as interconnected networks, combining platform data with advanced analytical models to deliver real-time, in-depth insight into risks and changing conditions, while maintaining full human control.

Abdullah Al Kalbani, CEO of Resource Defense Industries, stated that the collaboration enables the company to accelerate the integration of intelligent systems into its platforms and convert advanced research into practical capabilities that support the modernization of national air power and informed decision-making in real operational environments.

This initiative aligns with national priorities to deepen the local innovation ecosystem, enhance R&D in the defense sector, and accelerate the development of autonomous systems, in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution Strategy and the "Operation 300 Billion" strategy aimed at expanding the UAE’s advanced industrial base.
