Apple Shaken by Executive Departures and Risk of 'Johny Srouji' Leaving, Its Chief Chip Architect
Apple is experiencing leadership turmoil as senior executives depart, with the potential exit of Johny Srouji impacting its technological future.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Apple is undergoing a period of upheaval among its executive ranks as the number of senior officials and engineers leaving increases. This wave of resignations comes at a critical time as Apple faces intense competition, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, with many engineers moving to companies like Meta and OpenAI, as well as startups in this sector. These developments raise significant questions about the succession of CEO Tim Cook, who is nearing retirement age.
The biggest risk to Apple is the potential departure of Johny Srouji, Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies and the mastermind behind the company's internal chip strategy (Apple Silicon). Srouji is considered one of Apple's key players, having led the development of the M series chips that have redefined Macs and the A series chips used in iPhones. Recently, Srouji informed Tim Cook that he is seriously considering leaving in the near future, intending to join another company rather than retiring.
To mitigate this potential blow, CEO Tim Cook is making significant efforts to convince Srouji to stay, proposing an internal scenario for him to be promoted to Chief Technology Officer (CTO), along with a substantial compensation package. If Srouji does leave, it would represent a significant setback for Apple's technological future, leaving a large gap in the chip strategy that is crucial for its product performance and differentiation from competitors.
