On Sunday, January 25, 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced the official exchange rates for major foreign currencies against the Egyptian pound. Commercial banks operating in Egypt showed minimal rate differences, with the spread between the lowest and highest USD buy rates not exceeding 25 piasters.

According to CBE, the official USD buy rate stood at EGP 47.0002, with a sell rate of EGP 47.1366. The euro was quoted at a buy rate of EGP 55.5825 and a sell rate of EGP 55.7626. Across governmental, private, Islamic, and foreign banks, the USD buy rates ranged from EGP 47.00 (Emirates NBD) to EGP 47.25 (EG Bank, Banque du Caire), and sell rates averaged EGP 47.21.

Statistical analysis showed a maximum USD buy rate variance of just 0.53% from the average, with a standard deviation of EGP 0.08, indicating very low dispersion. The average buy and sell rates across all banks were EGP 47.11 and EGP 47.21, respectively, with most banks maintaining a profit margin of 10 piasters.

Key economic fundamentals underpinning this stability include foreign reserves at $51.45 billion (December 2025), remittances at $10.8 billion (+42.5% YoY), a reduced current account deficit, and higher tourism and Suez Canal revenues. Liquidity remains high, with over 20 banks actively trading and price transparency assured by real-time rate disclosures.

For large USD purchases, Emirates NBD offers the lowest rate, while EG Bank and Banque du Caire provide the highest buy rates for those selling dollars. Customers are advised to compare rates across 3–4 banks for optimal savings, though most banks offer closely aligned pricing.

Note: Rates may fluctuate during the day. It is recommended to check real-time prices before completing large transactions.
