Intel CEO Takes Charge of AI Initiatives Following CTO's Move to OpenAI
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan now leads AI efforts after CTO Sachin Katti left for OpenAI, amid executive changes and tough AI chip competition.
Acording to Reuters post, Intel has named CEO Lip-Bu Tan to oversee its artificial intelligence initiatives following the departure of Sachin Katti, who has taken a position at OpenAI.
Katti announced his move on social media, stating he would focus on designing and building the compute infrastructure for OpenAI's artificial general intelligence research.
This change comes during a period of executive turnover at Intel, which has been struggling to secure significant customers for its foundry services.
Although Intel's central processors are utilized in AI server systems, it faces stiff competition in the AI chip market from Nvidia and TSMC. Katti joined Intel four years ago and was promoted to CTO and chief AI officer earlier this year. Tan has made several changes in leadership, including expanding roles for existing executives and hiring new talent from outside the company.
