Masdar and Elite Agro Partnership Pioneers Clean Energy Integration in Sustainable Agriculture
Masdar and Elite Agro launched the MENA region's first agrivoltaic solar project, merging clean energy and agriculture in the UAE.
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), in partnership with Elite Agro Group, has unveiled the region's first agrivoltaic solar project in the Middle East and North Africa. This initiative merges renewable energy solutions with agricultural activities, tailored to the UAE’s climatic and environmental conditions. The project combines clean energy generation and crop cultivation by integrating solar panels into greenhouses, maximizing land efficiency and resource use, particularly in areas with limited arable land and high energy demand. Carefully designed panel shading reduces plant heat and water stress, improving crop yields and lowering irrigation needs. This approach directly supports the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, as well as the National Food Security Strategy 2051 through sustainable local production using advanced agri-tech. Masdar highlighted the project’s potential for regional scalability to strengthen both energy and food security, while Elite Agro emphasized the structural link between food security and the energy transition. The project signifies a shift toward integrative sustainability models, positioning the UAE as a practical laboratory and exporter of operational climate solutions.
