The new laboratory will be established at the KAIST Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI in Seoul. The partnership includes approximately $50 million per year in compute contributions over an initial five-year period, providing researchers with access to advanced NVIDIA AI infrastructure through local NVIDIA Cloud Partners.

According to NVIDIA, the lab will focus on developing AI models optimized for the Korean language and country-specific industrial applications, creating a pathway from academic research to enterprise and national AI deployments.

Bill Dally, NVIDIA's Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President of Research, said the collaboration will help accelerate the next generation of AI models and intelligent agent systems designed specifically for Korea's technology ecosystem.

Research Funding, Internships and Talent Development

The partnership plans to fund at least 10 KAIST researchers annually, while providing internship opportunities at NVIDIA. The company also intends to recruit outstanding Korean AI researchers into full-time positions, strengthening long-term collaboration between academia and industry.

Hyunwoo Kim, who will lead the joint laboratory after joining the KAIST faculty, said frontier AI research increasingly depends on world-class talent, large-scale computing infrastructure and close cooperation between universities and technology companies.

A central objective of the laboratory is to build agentic AI models optimized for the Korean language and domestic use cases using NVIDIA Nemotron open models.
