A report by The Economist reveals that Saudi Arabia aims to leverage its advantage in cheap renewable energy to establish a competitive global AI data center sector.
The Shuaiba solar plant near Jeddah generates electricity at less than one cent per kilowatt-hour, allowing the state-owned company 'Human' to offer AI computing services at half the prevailing prices. The company recently obtained a U.S. license to import 35,000 Nvidia chips worth $1 billion following a meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and President Trump.
Analysts expect the Kingdom to become one of the top five global AI centers within five years, as part of its Vision 2030 efforts to diversify the economy away from oil.
