China's electronics industry profits rose 96.9% in H1 2026 as AI adoption and computing demand fueled growth across chips and hardware.

China's electronics industry posted a 96.9% year-on-year increase in profits during the first half of 2026, driven by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and rising demand for computing power, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The NBS said the electronics sector contributed 8.5 percentage points to the overall profit growth of China's major industrial enterprises during the period, underscoring the industry's growing role in supporting the country's industrial performance.
Demand linked to AI infrastructure significantly boosted hardware manufacturers. Profits in the computer manufacturing industry surged 689.3% from a year earlier, while manufacturers of computer peripheral equipment - including mice, keyboards, and monitors - recorded a 305.8% increase in profits.
China's semiconductor industry also reported strong earnings growth. Profits in the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing sector soared 2,579.5% year-on-year, while manufacturers of discrete semiconductor devices, including transistors and diodes, posted a 31.2% increase.
Within the electronic components segment, profits from specialized electronic materials manufacturing climbed 209.7%, while electronic circuit manufacturers reported a 26.9% increase in earnings compared with the same period last year.
