US heating oil futures rose toward $2.16 per gallon, rebounding from a six-month low as the balance between actual supplies and winter demand tightened over the past week. This comes amid signs of shrinking supply availability and increased immediate withdrawals.

Market data showed that US distillate inventories increased by only 202,000 barrels in the week ending December 19, significantly below expectations for a 400,000-barrel rise. At the same time, refinery crude runs dropped by 212,000 barrels per day, and utilization fell to 94.6%, limiting near-term oil product output.

Meanwhile, weather conditions and logistical pressures boosted consumption and tightened market flows after the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warned of colder-than-normal weather in parts of the US. Emergency transport orders were issued in the Northeast, further increasing immediate heating oil withdrawals and straining distribution networks.

Externally, prices received additional support from rising crude oil prices amid new concerns over potential supply disruptions from Venezuela and renewed tensions between Russia and Ukraine. These factors have clouded the outlook for future feedstock availability and raised the risk premium in energy markets.

This upward movement highlights the heating oil market's sensitivity to rapid changes in weather, inventories, and geopolitical tensions, especially during the peak winter season, with US energy prices remaining subject to a delicate balance among production, seasonal demand, and global supply chain stability.
