Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has entered a new phase in the digital transformation of government services by making its official services accessible through the ChatGPT application platform. This marks the first time globally that a government or utility entity has taken such a step. The initiative moves DEWA beyond traditional web and smart app channels to a direct, interactive model leveraging multi-tasking AI platforms, redefining how customers access essential services.
The new launch enables customers to access DEWA's services via smart conversational interfaces using natural language, bridging the gap between users and services. This approach transforms AI platforms from merely advisory tools into operational service channels, representing a qualitative shift from 'digital service' to 'service embedded within global AI ecosystems.'
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized that this step is pivotal in reinventing government services by moving from conventional digital interaction to an integrated system directly connected with AI platforms. This integration allows access to DEWA's services through interactive smart interfaces, including ChatGPT and other AI systems capable of performing multiple tasks in a unified environment.
Al Tayer highlighted that providing DEWA’s services through these platforms demonstrates the authority’s leadership in adopting advanced smart solutions, offering flexible, proactive, and secure services. This enhances quality of life, streamlines customer experience, and supports Dubai’s status as a global hub for AI and sustainable innovation.
Operationally, the new experience allows DEWA customers to complete key services via ChatGPT, such as bill inquiries, account details, locating DEWA’s 'Green Charger' stations for electric vehicles, receiving directions to the nearest station, and checking customer happiness center locations, operating hours, and access routes. DEWA stated that the scope of services will gradually expand, adhering to its governance framework and maintaining the highest standards of cybersecurity and privacy.
This development sets a new practical model for government and service institutions, as AI platforms transition from support tools to official service channels - reducing time, increasing efficiency, and enhancing interaction between entities and customers.
EcoPulse24 Analysis:
DEWA’s move goes beyond a technical upgrade, representing a strategic shift in the digital infrastructure of government services. Integrating services into global AI platforms reduces reliance on multiple channels and brings services directly to users. This model has significant economic and operational implications, such as reducing interaction costs, improving service efficiency, and increasing scalability. It also reinforces Dubai’s role as a leading testbed for advanced digital transformation and sets a new standard for other government entities to reassess their operational models in the AI era.
